IGNITE·HEALTH Barcelona

IGNITE·HEALTH Barcelona is an intensive 4-month  introductory program for healthcare professionals, researchers and students who want to get started in the world of entrepreneurship.  

The program, inspired on the Biodesign methodology -created by the Stanford University-, provides the necessary tools for participants to develop a business idea based on an unmet medical need in the fields of cardiology, pulmonology or for Covid-19 Intensive Care Units.

Program kick-off

Introduction to the program, team building and hackathon to select the unmet clinical needs that will be used to generate a business idea.

The need and the solution developed by each team during the 2-day kick-off session will be the thread for the rest of the course. Each team will further develop the solution and the business model (value proposition) through the masterclasses, mentoring sessions and workshop.

Module1 - Introduction to the life sciences industry

Looking to the future, this module provides an insightful overview of how the Medtech and Digital Health industries are organized, their key stakeholders and the main trends, challenges and opportunities. Given by professionals from the sector, they also provide a historical evolution of the life sciences industry, an introduction to regulations and key reforms, and the resources available for keeping up to date. How these industries are like? Which are the key stakeholders? What are the main trends and opportunities? We'll give an answer to these and other questions.

Module 2 - Introduction to healthcare systems

This module provides an overview of the healthcare systems in Spain, Europe and the USA. It also offers a valuable outlook on how history has shaped the different healthcare systems in these regions, covers the current main providers and their roles, studies how they are funded and how the healthcare systems allocate resources, and finally discusses hospital organization. You will become familiar with the main trends and challenges facing health systems today, as well as the current organizational responses to address them.

Module 3 - Social entrepreneurship and global health

In this module, you will get introduced to the concepts, strategies and processes of social innovation and social entrepreneurship, and how it can help solve existing and future problems. You will also get an overview of global health, those issues transcending boundaries and governments, with an overview of the trends and key challenges we will be facing in the upcoming years. Both these topics are of specially relevant in the present pandemic situation.

Module 4 - Product development

This module covers key aspects in the process of the conceptualization and creation of a new product. You will learn how to design medical devices, as well as about the new materials used in the design. During the sessions, you will learn about new tools in the field of digital health, such as the use of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector.

Module 5 - Market access

Through this module, you will learn about the main elements to consider and work with when introducing a new product into the market, including the definition of market access strategies and knowledge of the regulatory pathways, from both a European and a US perspective. The sessions will also introduce you to the healthcare industry, its main agents and new trends.

Entrepreneur Small Talks

Series of talks in which three successful entrepreneurs from the BioRegion will share their personal experiences with the students. You will have the opportunity to learn about the key aspects to take into account when starting your own business, the successes, failures, difficulties and satisfactions of entrepreneurship.

Mentoring & Pitch Training

During the program, you will receive personalized mentoring from experts to carry out your project. The Pitch Training workshop will help you turn your project idea into a story that captures a potential audience.

Closing Event

The final closing event will include:

  •  “What’s Next” Talk: participants will learn about the next steps in the entrepreneurship journey from Biocat and EIT Health Spain.
     
  • “Funding strategies for healthcare startups” Talk: participants will learn the importance of defining a strategy to raise funding for their company and the key points to take into account when executing such strategy.

 

The event will end with a networking cocktail.

All the Participants selected need to understand the commitment they assume in accepting to participate in the program as the number of slots available is limited. In fact, Ignite·Health Barcelona is team-working based, which demands a continuity of the team since the start until the end of the program.

The organization of Ignite·Health Barcelona understands that the Participants selected by the program assume a firm commitment when they do the payment of the Participation Fee, and only in case of force majeure he/she can refuse to participate. The Participants found in this situation will have to request the cancellation via email to info@moebio.org, clearly exposing the reasons to request cancellation. 

Ignite·Health Barcelona will return the amount that the Participant has satisfied until the moment of the cancellation, in accordance with the following calendar:

  • If the participant requests the cancellation up to 2 weeks before the start of the course (17th August 2021), he/she will be reimbursed 100% of the amount satisfied (i.e., 500€).
  • In case that the cancellation request is done within the 2 weeks before the start of the course (between 18th August 2021 to 31st August 2021), he/she will be reimbursed 50% of the amount satisfied up to that moment (i.e., 250€)
  • In case that the cancellation request is done once the program has started, the participant will not receive any reimbursement.
